Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Stella, of Stella's Closet, and her mom, Aurora. Stella is an adorable, 9-year-old, red and white Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. Stella was adopted in 2011 after Aurora moved to Northern Kentucky from her native New Jersey. Stella was adopted from an organization in Ohio that listed her as a no name rescue from a puppy mill (Ohio is notorious for puppy mills, especially those operated by the Amish in Northeastern Ohio).
A life-long animal lover, Aurora decided to share Stella's story and help other dogs with similar, and often-times difficult, transitions; thus, Stella's Closet was born in Fall 2012. Stella's Closet is a charitable organization that donates care packages to recently adopted rescue dogs from several local rescues, including Recycled Doggies (where I adopted Mr. Bojangles). Stella's Closet helps dogs go from shelter and rescue to living "The Good Life" of adopted into a forever home. Stella's Closet is a 100% donation-based organization collecting new or gently used dog items from blankets, beds, and toys to collars and leashes, as well as treats. They then give gift baskets of these items to newly adopted rescue dogs as they begin their fresh start in life. Additionally, Aurora and Stella are available as a resource to help the transition faced by families with newly adopted rescue dogs.
