Week 23 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 has been the hardest week yet. Our theme this week was a self-portrait with our best friend. So, I had the idea to do a nice formal portrait of Mr. Bojangles and I, but as the poet Robert Burns said: "the best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley." Sadly, my plans did not pan out as I had difficulty getting an in-focus picture of the two of us with both of us looking at the camera. I used a remote shutter release, the timer, and also tried to reach out to the camera (on the tripod) to get the perfect portrait...it just didn't happen. That, coupled with Mr. Bojangles getting a little annoyed that he couldn't give me kisses while my face was so close to his, and our portrait session was over. It is SO much easier being behind the camera than it is to be both in front of it and the one pushing the shutter release.
My next attempt ended up being more of a "selfie" than a formal self-portrait, complete with selfie duck lips (which was actually me turning the tables on Mr. Bojangles and giving him kisses.) For this last ditch effort I tried both hand-holding the camera, but also setting it on a nearby table and using the timer. So, while my original portrait idea didn't work out as I'd hoped, I did get a self-portrait of myself with my little scruffy best friend (and, he is looking super scruffy right now as he is overdue for a grooming appointment.)
Now to see what luck others had with their self-portraits, head over to Emilee Fuss Photography, Sarasota, FL, then around the blog circle until you come back here.

P.S. This past week I made some changes to the website color scheme and layout. Let me know what you think.
